Water IQ: Know Your Water.

Do you know where your water comes from? If you live in the City of Lubbocklink opens in a new browser window, your water comes from Lake Meredith and the Ogallala Aquifer. You’ve just raised your Water IQ.

Here in the High Plains, the increase in urban and suburban development coupled with lower than average rainfall means our water is in greater demand than ever. As consumers, we need to use Lake Meredith and the Ogallala Aquifer’s limited water supply wisely and efficiently to make it last. This helps our economy and saves tax dollars, too.

The good news is reducing water use doesn’t take much effort: if everyone in the City of Lubbock and the High Plains reduces their water use by just 10 percent, we can make our water last. It’s simple and easy to save water. For some people that means watering your lawn just one less time each month; for others it’s fixing a leak or replacing broken sprinkler heads.

Here at WaterIQ.org you’ll find useful tips and resources to help you save water and learn about events in your community. You can even take a quiz to measure your Water IQ.
